OAK GROVE CHURCH OF CHRIST

A MESSAGE FROM

OUR MINISTER

"Welcome to the Oak Grove!!"  We are a reformation church with a true focus on the early churches of the new testament.

We have a deep sense of appreciation for our past, as well as a genuine excitement about our future. The history of Oak Grove Church of Christ dates back to 1819.  We like to refer to ourselves as "The Old Congregation with the New Spirit".

We are glad you have taken the time to visit our site.  In fact, your presence and interest in this church family is an answer to our prayer. We have been so touched by the love of Jesus Christ that our prayer is for God to send more people our way so that we can tell them what wonderful things He has done for us.  We work hard to make the most of our worship time together and hope that you will visit with us soon.

Oak Grove Church of Christ

CORE VALUES

01

We believe that Jesus extends grace to everyone and that we should follow in his steps. Who are we to pass judgment and not extend grace, when we ourselves have sinned. We believe we should love the sinner, not banish them.

02

We believe that Jesus is central to everything. We believe that prayer is a direct line to God, and that we should speak to Him every chance we get. Worship is our chance to praise God and we take joy in doing so.

03

We are called to join in fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We believe that reaching out to the lost and engaging with them will strengthen our bond with each other through God.

04

Jesus called us to go out and spread the word of God. We believe that this is not done enough. We make it a priority to go outside of the church walls to reach the lost and broken. We hope that you will join us in doing so.

Oak Grove Church of Christ

OUR HISTORY

  • 1819 - Established by our charter members: Christian Herman  & Elizabeth Dasher and Christian Gottlieb  & Mary Catherine Weisenbaker. Members met every Sunday in Dasher's home.
  • Christian Herman Dasher, his wife and thirty or more friends and relatives moved to Lowndes County, near Valdosta, Georgia in 1832 and established the church there.  However, the Wisenbakers and others in the congregation remained faithful in Effingham County. Congregation began meeting in Wisenbaker's home each Sunday..
  • 1837- Church members built a meeting house called ‘the Little Church in the Low Grounds’ near Courthouse Road, about seven miles east of Guyton and four miles west of  Wisenbaker’s home.
  • 1874 -A one room building was constructed two miles east of Guyton, and the church became known as the Antioch Church.
  • 1904 -Church members built a new meeing house on Rahn Station Road, Rincon, GA.
  • 1950- Church members built a new brick building at 306 East Fourth Street in Rincon, GA.
  • 2015- Due to overcrowding at 306 E. Fourth Street , the church purchased 5 + Acres on Rincon-Stillwell for a  new church building.
  • 2016 - Sold building at 306 East Fourth Street, began meeting at Rincon Elementary School, 501 North Richland Avenue, Rincon GA on Sunday and the "Kessler Mom and Pop House" on Rincon-Stillwell RD, Rincon, GA on Wednesday.
  • 2018 - Purchased building at 2000 Lexington Ave, Rincon GA instead of building a new church on the property on Rincon Stillwell RD, Rincon.
  • 2018 - Began meeting at 2000 Lexington Ave, Rincon, GA.

Our charter members formed this congregation  in 1819 . The church has moved several times during the two hundred years of its existence, but the congregation started in the summer of 1819 is still in existence today, having faithfully met for worship and the Lord’s Supper every Sunday since its establishment in 1819. We believe we are the oldest continually meeting Church of Christ in the United States.
