September 24 - Letter to Congregation from the Elders

Dear Oak Grove Congregation,

The number of COVID-19 cases in our area is declining but is still concerning.  We believe that through the Fall, and perhaps into 2021, there will be ups and downs with the numbers of cases. We will continue to prayerfully consider the best next steps for our congregation, and we will communicate further changes as we know them. Our church has responded with great faith as we have moved through the COVID-19 crisis.  The life of the church continues as there are in person and online Sunday morning worship opportunities and online bible studies on Tuesday and Wednesday evening on the church’s Facebook page.

We want to take a moment to say thank you for your ongoing support during this pandemic, whether you are comfortable at this point returning to worship in the building or prefer to worship online. Since resuming our Sunday Morning Worship in June, Sundays have been filled with joy as we reconnect and live in our “new normal.”  We are grateful for the way that our members and guests have followed guidelines regarding masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizing. So far, we are aware of zero instances of transmission of the virus through church gathering.  We are confident that when each of us does our part, we can keep one another safe while engaging in fellowship.

We also want to update you on the financial status of our church during these challenging times. Through July our contributions were about what they normally are.  However, since July our contributions have been lower than normal, and we have had several unusual financial challenges:

We purchased a much-needed lawn mower and had some trees removed and the stumps ground.  The cost of the lawn mower and tree removal was approximately $9,000.

A baptistry pipe broke and the sanctuary was flooded with 300 gallons of water.  The cost of the cleanup and repair was over $6,000.

We are in the process of upgrading our AV system to make streaming our church services better so that we can provide high-quality online worship during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.  The cost of this upgrade will be approximately $10,000.

We are asking you to consider the recent financial challenges our church has faced when making your contributions.  As a reminder, you can give three ways: in person during our Sunday Morning Worship; online at rinconchurchofchrist.com;  by mail, to Ritchie Dickey, 4169 HWY 119 N, Clyo, GA 31303 or to Oak Grove Church of Christ, 2000 Lexington AVE, Rincon, GA 31326.

Thank you for your faithfulness in giving, participation in worship (whether in-person or online) and caring well for one another. As difficult as these times are for all of us, we know God is in control, knows our concerns and abides with us to encourage and comfort us.  We pray for your health and safety and look forward to seeing each of you soon. Please do not hesitate to call or email us if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
